DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

NU Skin is an international cosmetic company, it sells various cosmetics products but recently it opened a department for selling weight management products which including beverages and dairy products. NU Skin plans to automate their shipping enquiry department by the end of this year and they are looking for consultants to take up this project. The following are specific requirements for the project:

§ Design and develop Oracle database that collects information about shipping, including customer, orders, products and items and prices.
§ Query various customer information such as his or her contact address, orders they made, date of shipment of the products they ordered, and so on;
§ Update database records including inserting new records and cleaning old records with safety;
§ Print various reports such as price list of products, orders for certain or all customer, shipment dates for all orders, the history of each order;
§ Pro-actively prevent invalid data from getting into database;
§ Perform some basic database maintenance and monitoring routines such as analyzing tables and indexes, monitoring disk usage, memory and cpu usage and so on.
§ Good and practical backup and disaster recovery strategy.
§ Fine tuning the system before deploy it.

METHORD

The teacher will demonstrate and discuss in detail each step of the project and will distribute some notes to students for them to practice after class. The teacher will also answer any project questions in class.
